                     ¡HOLA!

My name is Luz Atapaucar. I Live in Cusco, Peru where I have been teaching Spanish and Quechua to foreigners for over 10 years. I have a degree in Communication Science from the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco. I am also completing Master's studies in Spanish as a second Language.

As a teacher, in the Spanish language immersion setting, I have had the pleasure of teaching people from all over the world.  I teach individual, one on one lessons as well groups of up to 10 students.

For the last 6 years I have been teaching Spanish and Quechua independently,  with my own source materials. I find that this gives me more flexibility to work with my students' needs and schedules and leaves room for them to become acquainted with Andean culture, pursue their specific interests in my city and visit Machu Picchu and other archeological sites.

For the purpose of extending my services as a Spanish and Quechua language instructor, the idea arose to offer classes over the internet via Skype.  For the last 3 years, this arrangement has worked very well for those who want to prepare before traveling to South America and those who want to continue to improve after they leave their destination.

I offer Spanish and Quechua lessons,  and homestay in Cusco, Peru. I also teach over the internet via Skype. Please find out more about each service on their respective pages.

WHY LEARN SPANISH OR QUECHUA IN CUSCO, PERU?

  • Cusco was the capital of the Inca empire and today it is the gateway to Machu Picchu. From here it is easy and affordable to travel to many other sites such as: The Sacred Valley, Moray, Arequipa (Colca Canyon), Lake Titicaca, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina etc.

  • Cusco is a relatively safe place as far as cities in Latin America go. It is a natural choice if you are looking for a base to travel from. For this reason many travelers choose Cusco for their homestay in Peru.

  • Cusco maintains much of its Incan and Colonial heritage through its architecture, languages (Spanish and Quechua) and textiles.

  • Yet Cusco also has many modern conveniences and services much appreciated by travelers such as: ATM's, easy currency exchange (dollars, euros and pounds), Clinics (western medicine and alternative), vegetarian restaurants, laundry services and internet access everywhere.

  • In addition to the archeological sites and exploring Andean culture, opportunities to do volunteer work with native communities are increasing. If this interests you, please let me know, I can probably connect you to someone in your field of interest.

  • The Spanish of Cusco is very understandable compared to that of some regions in Latin America. Spanish language immersion is the fastest way to gain confidence in your spanish language skills

  • Quechua ("qheshwa")was the official language of  the Inca Empire.  Today it is still an integral part of the Andean culture and is  spoken by approximately 13 million people in Latin America. The best-known form of Quechua is that spoken in Cusco (Qosqo).
